Corinthians 1928-1929
Corinthians' 1928-1929 team was the two-time champion of the Paulista Championship in those two years. The achievement came when the club had already established itself as one of the greatest forces in São Paulo football and was inaugurating its stadium at Parque São Jorge.
History
The Sport Club Corinthians Paulista was founded on September 1st, 1910, in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, in São Paulo, by local workers and laborers. The name was inspired by the tour of the Corinthian Football Club, from England, which had visited Brazil in that same year. In the decades of the 1910s and 1920s, the club established itself as one of the protagonists of São Paulo football and won state championships in 1914, 1916, 1917 and in the three consecutive titles of 1922, 1923 and 1924. The end of the 1920s was marked by a new victorious phase. Corinthians won the Paulista Championship of 1928 and 1929, in a period when state football was organized by competing entities and the club's popularity grew among the working class of the capital. In this same period the club established its headquarters at Parque São Jorge, where the Alfredo Schürig stadium was inaugurated in 1928, becoming the team's home and a symbol of Corinthian identity.
