O Corinthians de 1979 foi campeão paulista com Sócrates e Wladimir, dois anos depois de encerrar o jejum no estadual em 1977.
Corinthians 1979
Corinthians in 1979 was the São Paulo state champion with a squad that featured Sócrates and Wladimir. The achievement came two years after the 1977 title, which ended a long drought for the club in the state championship.
History
Corinthians arrived at 1979 still under the effect of the 1977 São Paulo state title, which ended a drought of more than two decades without conquests in the state championship. The supporters were experiencing a moment of renewal and great mobilization around the club. In 1978, the team acquired Sócrates, coming from Botafogo de Ribeirão Preto, who soon became a key piece in midfield. Alongside names like fullback Wladimir, who had been with the club since 1972, he helped form a technical and competitive team. That year, Corinthians won the 1979 São Paulo State Championship, reinforcing the club's strength in the state arena. The squad and the atmosphere created during this period served as the foundation for what became known as Corinthian Democracy, a participatory management movement that gained prominence between 1982 and 1983 and had Sócrates and Wladimir among its main figures.
