History
Sport Club Corinthians Paulista was founded on September 1st, 1910, in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, in São Paulo, by workers. In 1995, the club was undergoing the reconstruction of a competitive squad after a period without major national achievements. The team's highlights were midfielder Marcelinho Carioca, a specialist in set pieces, and striker Viola, an idol for the fans. This group became one of Corinthians' references in the 1990s. In 1995, the club won the Campeonato Paulista and the Brazilian Cup. In the Brazilian Cup final, Grêmio was their opponent, and Corinthians claimed the title, the club's first in the competition. The 1995 title opened a sequence of victories in the second half of the decade, which led the club to the 1998 Brasileirão (Brazilian Championship) and the 2000 FIFA Club World Cup.
