History
Sport Club Corinthians Paulista was founded on September 1st, 1910, in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, in São Paulo. In 1998, the club reached the final of the Brazilian Championship. The decision was against Cruzeiro, and Corinthians took the trophy, becoming Brazilian champions for the second time, eight years after the first title, in 1990. The 1998 title opened one of the most victorious periods in the club's history. The club repeated the national conquest in 1999 and, in January 2000, won the first FIFA Club World Championship, defeating Vasco in a penalty shootout in the final, at the Maracanã. Marcelinho Carioca, an idol to the fans, and midfielder Vampeta were in the championship squad, which came to be remembered as the foundation of the winning generation of the late 1990s.
