Corinthians 2007
The 2007 Corinthians team was the one that suffered the first relegation in the club's history, after a difficult season in the Brazilian Championship. The drop paved the way for the Serie B title in 2008.
History
Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, founded in 1910, reached 2007 after a cycle marked by the partnership with the MSI group, by Kia Joorabchian, which began in 2005. That year the club was Brazilian champion with Carlos Tevez, who left the country in 2006 heading to West Ham. In 2007 the team had an irregular performance in the Brasileirão and ended up in the relegation zone. In December of that year Corinthians was relegated for the first time in 97 years of history, a fact that mobilized the fans and had enormous national repercussion. The reaction came in 2008. Under the command of Mano Menezes, the team won the Serie B title and secured their return to the elite. In 2009 the club won the Paulista Championship and the Copa do Brasil, returning to national prominence. The 2007 episode is remembered as one of the most dramatic moments in Corinthian history and also as the starting point for one of the fastest reconstructions in Brazilian football.
