Guará Regatta Club
The Guará Regatta Club was a club from the Federal District founded on January 9, 1957. Known as Lobo, it won the 1996 Brasiliense Championship and competed in the Serie A of the Brazilian Championship in 1979.
History
The Guará Regatta Club was founded on January 9, 1957 by employees of the Department of Human Topography, with Oswaldo Cruz Viera as its first president. The club was based in Guará, an administrative region neighboring Brasília. The football department ceased operations in the 1960s. In the 1970s, a merger with the amateur clubs Humaitá and Corinthians allowed the reopening. The colors yellow, black, and white came from the official colors of the Guará administrative region, and the crest was inspired by that of Corinthians paulista. Guará competed in the Serie A of the Brazilian Championship in 1979 and won the 1984 Center-West Tournament. In local football, it was runner-up in the Brasiliense Championship in 1960, 1976, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1988, 1991, and 1998, in addition to winning the title in 1996. Defender Lúcio, future World Cup champion with the Brazilian National Team, played for the club in 1997, before joining Internacional. Guará ceased operations in 2019.
