Cruz Azul is one of the historic clubs of Mexican football, with roots linked to a cement cooperative. It is one of the most traditional teams in the Mexican capital.
History
Founded in 1927 in the city of Jasso, Hidalgo, linked to the La Cruz Azul Cooperative, the club moved to Mexico City in the following decades, becoming one of the greatest forces in national football. The club experienced its golden era between the 1960s and 1970s, winning multiple Liga MX titles and establishing itself as one of the great historical rivals in Mexican football. After a long drought of national titles that lasted more than two decades, Cruz Azul finally won the Liga MX again in 2021, ending one of the longest droughts in Latin American football and generating great repercussions among fans. Beyond national titles, the club also won continental competitions such as the Concacaf Confederations Cup, reinforcing its international tradition.
