Cruzeiro 1969
Cruzeiro's 1969 team completed the five consecutive Minas Gerais State Championship titles streak that started in 1965, in one of the most successful periods in the club's history. The team had Tostão, Dirceu Lopes, Piazza and Natal as key references.
History
Founded in 1921 as Palestra Itália, Cruzeiro became in the 1960s the main force in Minas Gerais football, breaking Atlético Mineiro's dominance in the state championship. Between 1965 and 1969, the team won five consecutive Minas Gerais State Championship titles, a sequence that became known as the five-title streak. In 1966, the team defeated Pelé's Santos in the Taça Brasil with a 6-2 rout at Mineirão in the first leg. The squad brought together players such as Tostão, Dirceu Lopes, Piazza and Natal, and consolidated Mineirão as the stage for Cruzeiro's great achievements.
