History
Cruzeiro Esporte Clube was founded on January 2, 1921, in Belo Horizonte, with the name Palestra Itália, and adopted its current name in 1942. Throughout the 20th century, the club established itself as one of the great powers in Brazilian football, with home matches at Mineirão. The Copa do Brasil has always had a strong connection with Cruzeiro's history. Cruzeiro was the first champion of the competition in 1993, and repeated the feat in 1996, before raising the trophy again in 2000. In the 2000 edition, the team from Minas Gerais reached the final against São Paulo and became champion, winning the club's third Copa do Brasil title. Later, Cruzeiro would still win the competition in 2003, 2017 and 2018.
