The 1999 CSA is the most memorable team in the history of the Alagoan club on the international stage. That year, the Azulão reached the final of the CONMEBOL Cup, an unprecedented achievement for Alagoas football.

History

Centro Sportivo Alagoano experienced the peak of its history in 1999. Dominant in the state scene during the 1990s, the Azulão from Mutange won another Alagoan Championship and earned a place in the CONMEBOL Cup, a continental tournament organized by the South American confederation and predecessor to the current South American Cup. In the continental campaign, CSA eliminated strong opponents and led Alagoan fans to fill Estádio Rei Pelé, in Maceió, during historic nights. The team reached the final against Talleres, from Córdoba, Argentina. In the final, CSA was defeated by the Argentines and finished as runner-up of the 1999 CONMEBOL Cup. Even without the title, the campaign remains to this day the greatest international achievement of an Alagoan club and made that squad eternal in the memory of Azulão fans.
