History

Cúcuta Deportivo was founded in 1924 and represents the city of Cúcuta, capital of the department of Norte de Santander, on the border with Venezuela. The club plays its matches at General Santander Stadium and has red and black as its colors. The greatest moment in the club's history came in 2006, when it won the title of the Torneio Finalización of the Categoría Primera A, under the command of coach Jorge Luis Pinto. It was the first and only Colombian championship title for the team. As champions, Cúcuta competed in the 2007 Copa Libertadores and reached the semifinals, one of the best campaigns by a Colombian club of lesser tradition in the tournament. The club was relegated to the second division at the end of 2011 and returned to the first division in 2018.
