History
Founded in 1913 in the Palermo neighborhood of Montevideo, Defensor Sporting Club grew to become one of the pillars of Uruguayan football. Its violet and white colors became a symbol of technical quality and athlete development in the country. The club established itself as the third force in Uruguayan football, behind only the giants Peñarol and Nacional, winning multiple titles in the Uruguayan Primera División over the decades. Player development has always been one of Defensor's trademarks, having revealed talents for South American and European football. Luis Franzini Stadium, located in the Prado neighborhood of Montevideo, is the club's home. With a capacity of around 18,000 fans, the stadium was the scene of memorable battles in Viola's history. In South American competitions, Defensor participated in various editions of the Copa Libertadores, representing Uruguayan football with dignity on the continental stage and sometimes surprising opponents from larger countries.
