The Deportivo La Coruña of 1999-2000 won the first and only Spanish title in the club's history, under the command of Javier Irureta. The Galician team had Mauro Silva, Djalminha, Fran, Roy Makaay and Naybet.

History

Deportivo La Coruña, founded in 1906 in Galicia, lived its best period between the 1990s and 2000s. The team known as Super Depor had already been Spanish runner-up in 1993-94, when it lost the title on the final matchday after defender Djukic wasted a penalty against Valencia. The title came in the 1999-2000 season, with Javier Irureta in command. The team had Brazilian Mauro Silva as the midfield pillar, fellow Brazilian Djalminha in the creative role, captain Fran, Moroccan Naybet in defense and Dutch striker Roy Makaay, signed that year. The 1999-2000 Spanish title was Deportivo's first and broke the hegemony of Real Madrid and Barcelona. In the following years, the club won the Copa del Rey in 2002, in a final against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, and reached the semifinals of the Champions League in 2003-04, when it was eliminated by Porto.
