The Centro Deportivo Municipal is a club from Lima founded in 1935, one of the pioneers of professionalism in Peru. It won four national titles between the 1930s and 1950s.

History

The Centro Deportivo Municipal was founded in 1935 by employees of the Lima city hall and quickly became a protagonist in the Peruvian championship, which at that time was disputed in an amateur-professional format in the capital. The club won the national titles in 1938, 1940, 1943, and 1950, a period in which it rivaled Alianza Lima, Universitario, and Sport Boys. The nickname La Academia was born from the team's associative style of play and youth player development. In the following decades, Municipal alternated between the first and second divisions, maintaining a strong popular identity in Lima. Its return to the top flight in 2015 brought the club back to the Peruvian first division after years of absence. The Iván Elías Moreno Stadium, in Villa El Salvador, became the team's main home for its matches in the national league.
