Desportiva Ferroviária
Desportiva Ferroviária is a club from Espírito Santo founded by workers of the Vitória to Minas Railroad, being one of the most traditional in Espírito Santo. The club marked the history of state football and even competed in editions of the Brazilian Championship in the national era.
History
Founded in 1936 by railroad workers linked to Vale do Rio Doce Company and the Vitória to Minas Railroad, Desportiva was born with the vocation of work and collectivity. The name and colors reflected the pride of the working class that moved the rails of Espírito Santo. In the 1950s and 1960s, the club consolidated itself as the main force of football in Espírito Santo, dominating the State Championship and projecting names that would wear the Brazilian national team shirt in youth categories. The Locomotiva fans filled Caçambão in regional derbies. The great national phase came in the 1970s, when Desportiva competed in the Brazilian Football Championship, the most important national competition, facing giants like Flamengo, Palmeiras and Cruzeiro. It was the period of greatest exposure for the club outside the borders of Espírito Santo. After this golden cycle, Desportiva faced the financial difficulties common to clubs from the interior of Brazil, alternating between rises and relegations in state divisions. Nevertheless, it remains as a symbol of a time when football in Espírito Santo had a voice on the national scene.
