Dundee United
Scottish club founded in 1909 in the city of Dundee, historic rival of Dundee FC in the famous 'Dundee derby'. It was Scottish champion in 1982-83 and finalist of the UEFA Cup in 1987, being one of the clubs of greatest tradition outside the Celtic-Rangers axis.
History
Dundee United was founded in 1909 as Dundee Hibernian, a club linked to the Irish community of the city, and adopted its current name in 1923 to broaden its fan base. It has hosted its matches at Tannadice Park since its foundation, separated by just one street from Dens Park, the stadium of rival Dundee FC. The club's historical peak occurred in the 1970s and 1980s, under the command of coach Jim McLean, a period in which Dundee United won its only Scottish championship title in the 1982-83 season, as well as Scottish League cups. The European peak came in 1987, when the club reached the UEFA Cup final, lost to IFK Göteborg. In addition to the national title, Dundee United won the Scottish Cup in 1994 and 2010, consolidating itself as one of the most competitive clubs in Scottish football outside the traditional Celtic-Rangers duo. Currently it competes in the Scottish Premiership, alternating with appearances in the Championship.
