FC Dynamo Kyiv

FC Dynamo Kyiv is the largest club in Ukraine and one of the most important in the history of Eastern European football. Founded in 1927 in Kyiv, the club dominated Soviet and Ukrainian football over decades, serving as a continental reference in the 1970s and 1980s. The impressive National Olympic Stadium of Kyiv, with a capacity of over 70,000 spectators, is the largest arena in Ukraine.

History

Dynamo Kyiv won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1975 and 1986 and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 1999, when they eliminated Barcelona with a team full of Ukrainian talents. The club dominated Soviet football with several national league titles and produced one of the greatest coaches in history, Valery Lobanovsky, whose ideas about total football influenced generations. Andriy Shevchenko began his career at Dynamo before becoming one of the greatest strikers in the world. The Russian-Ukrainian conflict since 2022 has profoundly affected the club's operations and European participation.
