Sport Club 14 de Julho
Sport Club 14 de Julho is a club from Santana do Livramento, in Rio Grande do Sul, founded on July 14, 1902. It is known as the Frontier Lion and the Frontier Red-Black, in reference to the city that borders Rivera, in Uruguay. It plays its games at João Martins Stadium.
History
14 de Julho was founded on July 14, 1902 in Santana do Livramento, a state city in Rio Grande do Sul that forms a dry border with the Uruguayan city Rivera. In its first decades of existence, the club played several games and competitions also in Uruguay, which reflects the sports exchange environment of the region. The club built its tradition in local football: it won the Campeonato Citadino de Santana do Livramento 40 times, between 1906 and 1982, with a sequence of consecutive titles between 1906 and 1921. This dominance made 14 de Julho one of the most successful clubs in the history of border football. The player Moderato Wisintainer, who participated in the 1930 World Cup for the Brazilian national team, played for the club during his youth. Throughout its history, 14 de Julho competed in Rio Grande do Sul football competitions, such as the Campeonato Gaúcho divisions. João Martins Stadium, with a capacity of about 5,000 people, is its home.
