Esporte Clube Noroeste, known as Steel Squadron, is a centennial club from Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo. Founded in 1909, it is one of the most traditional clubs in Paulista football and has a deep connection with the city that saw Pelé, the greatest player of all time, grow up.

History

Founded on September 17, 1909, Esporte Clube Noroeste has more than a century of history in Brazilian football. The club was born in Bauru, a city in the interior of São Paulo that would become famous worldwide as the place where Pelé grew up and began his football training, although at another local club. Estádio Alfredo de Castilho, popularly known as Noroestão, is the home of Steel Squadron and holds more than 20 thousand fans. The stadium was the venue for important matches of Paulista football over the decades and remains a symbol of the club's tradition and the city. Noroeste was a frequent competitor in the Paulista Championship and participated in editions of the Brazilian Championship, maintaining the tradition of interior São Paulo football at the national level. The club is proud of its centennial history and its role in the development of football in the northwestern region of the state. Throughout its trajectory, Noroeste formed and revealed players who pursued careers in national and international football, fulfilling the forming role that interior Brazilian clubs play fundamentally in the country's football ecosystem.
