Estrela da Amadora Football Club

Estrela da Amadora Football Club

Club based in the Lisbon metropolitan area, refounded in 2020 following the extinction of the original club. Returned to Portuguese professional football and achieved promotion to the First Division in 2023.

History

Estrela da Amadora Football Club was originally founded on January 22, 1932, by a group of Amadora residents passionate about football. The club experienced its greatest sporting moment in the 1989-90 season, winning the Portuguese Cup with a 2-0 victory over Sporting Clube Farense. After years of financial difficulties, the original club was dissolved in 2011, leaving a void in Amadora's football scene. On July 11, 2020, a merger between Clube Desportivo Estrela and Sintra Football gave rise to the current Estrela da Amadora Football Club, rescuing the identity and historic name of the extinct club. The new project grew rapidly through the Portuguese divisions, achieving promotion to the First Division in the 2022-23 season by defeating CS Marítimo on penalties in the promotion playoffs. Since then, the club competes in Portuguese elite football, playing its matches at the historic José Gomes Stadium.
