Estrela do Norte Futebol Clube
Founded in 1916 in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Estrela do Norte is one of the most traditional clubs in Capixaba football, with a shield and colors inspired by Botafogo of Rio de Janeiro. It is the 2014 champion of the Capixaba Championship.
History
Estrela do Norte Football Club was founded on January 16, 1916 by a group of residents of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, in southern Espírito Santo, including Laurentino Lugon, Mário Sampaio and Orlando Nunes. The team's first field was located in the yard of Colégio Liceu Muniz Freire, situated in the northern part of the city — the origin of the club's name. The great inspiration for the team's shield and colors was Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas, from Rio de Janeiro, which is reflected to this day in the predominant black and white and the lone star that adorns the club's symbol. In 2012, Estrela do Norte released a retro shirt rescuing the original colors, green and yellow, used in its early years of existence. With its headquarters transferred over time to the Sumaré neighborhood, the club built Estádio Mário Monteiro, affectionately nicknamed 'Sumaré', which became its home for Capixaba Championship and Copa Espírito Santo matches. In the Capixaba Championship, Estrela do Norte won the elite title in 2014, after being runner-up in five previous occasions, in addition to winning the state second division in 1996 and 1999. It was also champion of the Copa Espírito Santo in three consecutive editions, between 2003 and 2005, consolidating itself as one of the main representatives of the interior in Capixaba football.
