FC Basel is Switzerland's most successful club, dominating Swiss football for much of the twenty-first century. Founded in 1893, the club is renowned for its remarkable campaigns in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. History
Basel won multiple Swiss Super League titles, especially between 2002 and 2017, when it dominated Swiss football almost continuously. The club reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2002-03 and had memorable campaigns in the Europa League, including semi-finals. It revealed players such as Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri to European football. Its rivalry with Young Boys of Bern is one of the most intense in Swiss football.
