History
FC Groningen was founded on June 16, 1971 and became the main club in northern Netherlands, a region with little tradition in the country's professional football. The team plays at Euroborg, a stadium with approximately 22,550 capacity, and is known as the Pride of the North (Trots van het Noorden). The greatest title in the club's history is the Dutch Cup (KNVB Beker) of 2014–15, Groningen's first major trophy, with two goals from Slovak midfielder Albert Rusnák in the final. The club also became known for developing and promoting players such as Arjen Robben and Luis Suárez, who played for Groningen before shining in major European clubs.
