FC Midtjylland

Danish club from Herning, founded in 1999 from the merger of Ikast FS and Herning Fremad. Pioneer in the use of data analysis in European football and Danish champions.

History

FC Midtjylland was created in 1999 from the merger between Ikast Forenede Sportsklubber and Herning Fremad, two clubs from the central region of Jutland, with the aim of forming a strong enough association to compete with the big clubs of Copenhagen. The club gained international notoriety from 2014, when it came under the control of a group led by Matthew Benham, also owner of English Brentford, implementing a management model based intensively on statistical analysis for signings, lineups and set pieces. This model produced quick results: FC Midtjylland won its first Danish Superliga title in the 2014-15 season and became national champions in the following seasons, establishing itself as a power in Danish football. The club also built a reputation for youth development and player sales, as well as recurring participations in European competitions, including the group stage of the Champions League, playing at MCH Arena in Herning.
