History

Founded on May 4, 1900 in the city of Nuremberg, in Bavaria, 1. FC Nürnberg quickly established itself as one of the great powers of German football. Between 1920 and 1968, the club won nine German championship titles, becoming at one point the club with the most national titles in German history for an extended period. The period between the two World Wars was the most glorious for Nuremberg, with consecutive titles in the 1920s and victories in the 1930s and 1940s. Max Morlock, a legend of the club and the German national team who was runner-up in the 1954 World Cup and scored in the final against Hungary, became Nuremberg's greatest symbol, and the club's stadium was named after him as a posthumous tribute in 2005. After the golden period, the club alternated between the Bundesliga and the second division, but never lost its tradition and its passionate fan base. In 2007, the club enchanted all of Germany by winning the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup, in one of the last great moments of glory for the Bavarian institution.
