History

FC Sochaux-Montbéliard was founded in 1928 by Jean-Pierre Peugeot, linked to the Peugeot automobile factory located in the Montbéliard region. The club was one of the first in France to adopt professionalism and participated in the first edition of the professional French championship in 1932-33. In the 1930s, the club experienced its golden age, winning the French Championship in 1935 and 1938, as well as the French Cup in 1937, with a squad considered one of the strongest in the country at that time. In the following decades, Sochaux established itself as an academy club, producing several players for French football. In 2007, it lifted the French Cup again, defeating Olympique de Marseille in the final on penalties. In recent years, the club has alternated between the lower divisions of French football, also facing financial difficulties, but maintains a loyal fanbase in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.
