FC Twente

FC Twente is one of the most traditional clubs in Dutch football, based in Enschede, in the historic Twente region. Champions of the Eredivisie in 2009-10, the club is recognized for developing talents, passionate supporters, and regular participation in European competitions.

History

Founded in 1965 in the city of Enschede, in the east of the Netherlands, FC Twente built its identity from an industrialized region and an extremely loyal fanbase. The club took several decades to establish itself as a powerhouse of the Eredivisie, but when it did, it left its mark on Dutch football. The greatest moment in the club's history came in the 2009-10 season, when FC Twente won the Eredivisie title for the first and only time, ending the hegemony of traditional powerhouses Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, and Feyenoord. The achievement was celebrated as a historic feat for the city of Enschede and for eastern Dutch football. The club also shone in European football, participating in several editions of the UEFA Europa League and reaching advanced stages of the competition. Grolsch Veste, the club's stadium with a capacity of around 30,000 fans, hosted memorable matches against teams from across the continent. FC Twente is recognized for its work in developing young talents, contributing to the emergence of players who became prominent figures in Dutch and international football, maintaining its tradition even during the financial difficulties the club faced in the second half of the 2010s.
