History
Founded in 1896, FC Zurich is one of Switzerland's oldest and most successful clubs, with more than ten Swiss Championship titles throughout its history. The club's European peak came in the 1960s and 1970s, when it reached the semi-finals of the European Cup in the 1963-64 and 1976-77 seasons, historic results for Swiss football. In the 2000s, FCZ won national titles again, including the championships of 2005-06 and 2006-07, decided dramatically against rivals Basel, and the title of 2021-22, which ended a drought of more than a decade. The club maintains intense local rivalry with Grasshopper, in the so-called Zurich Derby, one of the oldest classics in European football.
