Ferroviário Esporte Clube
Ferroviário Esporte Clube is a club from Piauí founded in Teresina in 1935 by workers of the Federal Railway Network. Known as the Locomotive of Piauí, it is one of the most traditional clubs in the state and a symbol of the history of northeastern football.
History
Founded in 1935 by railroad workers who sought a space for leisure and sports competition in Teresina, Ferroviário EC quickly became a reference in Piauí football. Its name and nickname directly refer to its working-class origins, linked to the railway that crossed the interior of the Brazilian Northeast during the Vargas era. Over the decades, the club disputed numerous editions of the Piauí Championship, conquering state titles and forming players who went on to play in other states of the country. In the 1970s and 1980s, Ferroviário participated in editions of the Brazilian Football Championship, a period when the tournament still brought together clubs from all divisions in qualifying rounds. The club maintains a loyal fan base in Teresina and represents the memory of amateur and semi-professional football that structured the sport in Piauí.
