History
Figueirense Football Club was founded on June 12, 1921, in Florianópolis, and became the most traditional club in the state capital. It plays its home matches at Estádio Orlando Scarpelli, located in the Estreito neighborhood, and maintains with Avaí the greatest rivalry in the state, the Florianópolis derby. The club is the greatest winner of the Campeonato Catarinense, with 18 titles, won across different eras — from the 1930s and 1940s, when it dominated local football, to the back-to-back championships of 2014 and 2015. Between 2002 and 2008, it experienced its most stable period at the national elite level, competing in seven consecutive editions of Serie A of the Campeonato Brasileiro. In 2007, Figueirense reached the Copa do Brasil final, losing to Fluminense, marking the club's greatest achievement in national competitions. After further spells in Serie A in 2012 and between 2014 and 2016, the club faced challenging years in the lower divisions, but remains a reference in Catarinense football.
