Flamengo 1914
The Flamengo Rowing Club, founded in 1895 as a rowing club, won its first Rio de Janeiro football championship in 1914, just a few years after the creation of the football department in 1911.
History
The Flamengo Rowing Club was founded on November 17, 1895, in Rio de Janeiro, as a club dedicated to rowing. Football only arrived at the club in 1911, when players who left Fluminense joined Flamengo and established the football department. In its early years, the red-black team played its matches at Paysandu Street field, in the Flamengo neighborhood, where it remained until the 1930s, before moving to Gávea and, from 1950 onwards, also using the Maracanã. In 1914, Flamengo won its first football title in history, the Carioca Championship, repeating the achievement in 1915 and forming the club's first back-to-back championship. The 1914 conquest was the starting point of a trajectory that would lead Flamengo to become one of the most popular clubs in Brazil and champion of the Copa Libertadores and the 1981 Intercontinental Cup.
