History
Between 1942 and 1944, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo won three consecutive editions of the Carioca Championship, then the main competition in Brazilian football. The period marked the peak of a generation that helped expand the club's fan base in the city. The star of the squad was midfielder Zizinho, who played for Flamengo from 1939 to 1950 and is considered one of the greatest players in the club's history. Defender Domingos da Guia, an idol of the 1930s, played for Flamengo until 1943 and participated in the first two titles of the three-peat. The team played its home games at Estádio da Gávea, the club's home before the inauguration of Maracanã in 1950. The three consecutive championships of 1942, 1943, and 1944 remain to this day among Flamengo's historic achievements from before the national tournaments era.
