History

After the Brazilian Championship titles in 1980 and 1982 and the conquest of the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 1981, Flamengo maintained its winning squad and returned to be national champion in 1983. In the final that year, Flamengo defeated Santos and lifted the Brazilian Championship trophy. Zico, then at his peak, was the team's main orchestrator, accompanied by players such as Adílio, Leandro, Júnior and Mozer. The cycle that began in the late 1970s made Flamengo the most successful club in Brazil during that period, with three Brazilian titles in 1980, 1982 and 1983. After 1983, Zico transferred to Udinese in Italy, ending the most dominant phase in the club's recent history until then.
