O Flamengo de 1987 venceu a Copa União, torneio do Clube dos 13, mas a CBF reconheceu o Sport como campeão brasileiro daquele ano, o que gerou uma disputa histórica.
Flamengo 1987
The 1987 Flamengo team won the Copa União, disputed by the Clube dos 13, defeating Internacional in the final of the Green Module. The title is a matter of historical dispute, as the CBF officially recognized Sport as the Brazilian champion that year.
History
Flamengo Football Club was founded in 1895 and reached the late 1980s as one of Brazil's greatest clubs, with the generation that had won the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 1981. In 1987, the CBF did not have the financial means to organize the Brazilian Championship, and the major clubs united in the Clube dos 13 to hold the Copa União. The tournament was divided into Modules, and Flamengo competed in the Green Module, which brought together the main clubs. The red-black team won the group and conquered the Copa União title by surpassing Internacional in the final, with players such as Zico, Bebeto, Leandro and Júnior in the squad. The controversy arose because the original regulations provided for a crossing between the champions of the Green and Yellow Modules, which did not occur. In 2011, the CBF officially recognized Sport, champion of the Yellow Module, as the Brazilian champion of 1987, keeping the debate alive among fans to this day.
