Flamengo 2009 was the team that won the Brazilian Championship after 17 years of waiting, with Adriano as the main star and Andrade in charge in the final stretch. The team was also Rio de Janeiro State Championship champions in the same year.

History

In 2009, Flamengo experienced one of the most remarkable seasons of the points-based era. The club had won its last Brazilian title in 1992 and ended a 17-year drought without the national trophy. The team counted on the return of Adriano, the Emperor, who returned to Brazil after his spell at Inter Milan and was decisive in the campaign. Defender Juan, experienced and leader of the defense, was also an important piece of the championship squad. The team had a very strong second half of the season, gained confidence under Andrade's leadership and took the lead in the final rounds. The title was confirmed in the last round, with a 2-1 victory over Grêmio, in front of the fans at the Maracanã. That same year, Flamengo also won the Rio de Janeiro State Championship, which made 2009 a season of two important titles and consolidated the club's return to the top of Brazilian football.
