History
Fluminense Football Club was founded on July 21, 1902, in Rio de Janeiro, by Oscar Cox, who learned about football during his studies in Switzerland. The club was born connected to the Carioca elite and played a central role in the popularization of the sport in the city. In 1906, the first edition of the Carioca Championship was held, organized by the Metropolitan League. Fluminense won the tournament and entered history as the first Carioca champion. The 1906 title was the beginning of a trajectory that would lead the club to become one of the greatest state champions and, later, to give rise to the classic Fla-Flu rivalry.
