History

Fluminense Football Club was founded on July 21, 1902, in Rio de Janeiro, by the initiative of Oscar Cox. The club won the first Carioca Championship in 1906 and soon became one of the dominant forces in Rio de Janeiro football, with headquarters and pitch at Laranjeiras. In 1912, Fluminense was the protagonist of the first Fla-Flu, a classic against Flamengo that would become one of the greatest in Brazilian football. In this period, the Carioca Championship was the country's main tournament and the dispute between the capital's clubs attracted great public interest. Between 1917 and 1919, Fluminense won three consecutive editions of the Carioca Championship, organized by the Metropolitan League of Land Sports. The three-time championship reinforced the club's prestige in national football and is remembered as one of the first great title sequences in Tricolor's history.
