Fluminense 1940-1941

Fluminense of 1940 and 1941 was the two-time champion of the Carioca Championship, in an era when the club played their home matches at Estádio das Laranjeiras. It is one of the great moments of the tricolor before the construction of the Maracanã.

History

Fluminense Football Club was founded on July 21, 1902, in Rio de Janeiro, by Oscar Cox, and became one of the most traditional clubs in Brazilian football. In the 1940s, Rio's state championship was the main competition in the country and brought together the largest clubs of what was then the federal capital. In this scenario, Fluminense won the Carioca Championships in 1940 and 1941, consecutively. The titles reinforced the club's position in the rivalry with Flamengo, Vasco and Botafogo, and consolidated a generation that remained marked in tricolor memory. At the time, the team played their home matches at Estádio das Laranjeiras, the club's home and the stage of great decisions in Rio football. The Maracanã would only be inaugurated in 1950, which makes Laranjeiras the natural setting for the conquests of 1940 and 1941.
