Fluminense 1975-1976 (Tricolor Machine)
The Tricolor Machine was the Fluminense team assembled by president Francisco Horta between 1975 and 1976. The team was two-time Carioca champion with stars such as Rivellino, Paulo César Caju and Carlos Alberto Torres.
History
In 1975, president Francisco Horta gathered a squad of stars at Fluminense. The main signing was Rivellino, who arrived from Corinthians. The team also had Paulo César Caju, Carlos Alberto Torres, Doval, Pintinho and Edinho, and became known as the Tricolor Machine. With this squad, Fluminense won the Carioca Championship in 1975 and 1976. The team's offensive and technical football made its mark at the Maracanã. In the Brazilian Championship, however, the Machine fell short twice in the semifinals. In 1975, it lost to Internacional. In 1976, it was eliminated by Corinthians on penalties, in the match remembered for the Corinthian Invasion of the Maracanã. Even without the national title, the Tricolor Machine remains one of the most remembered teams in the history of Fluminense and Rio de Janeiro football.
