History
Fortaleza entered 2019 back in Série A, after winning Série B in 2018 under Rogério Ceni's command. The club kept the coach and assembled a squad to compete in the Brasileirão, Campeonato Cearense, and Copa do Nordeste. In the Copa do Nordeste, the Lion reached the final against Botafogo-PB and won the unprecedented title of the regional competition. In the Campeonato Cearense, it was also champion. In the middle of the season, Rogério Ceni left to coach Cruzeiro. He spent little time in Belo Horizonte and returned to Fortaleza still in 2019. Upon his return, he led the team to 9th place in the Brasileirão, a campaign that gave the club a spot in the 2020 Copa Sudamericana and opened the strongest period for Fortaleza on the national stage.
