History
Fortaleza began the 2021 season under Enderson Moreira's leadership. In May, the club hired Argentine Juan Pablo Vojvoda, who changed the team's competitive level in his first year of work. In the Brazilian Championship, the Pici Lion spent most of the tournament in the upper part of the table. It finished in 4th place, with 58 points, ahead of clubs such as Corinthians, Red Bull Bragantino and Fluminense. It was the club's best finish in the round-robin era and earned a direct spot in the group stage of Libertadores 2022, something unprecedented in the club's history. In the Copa do Brasil, Fortaleza reached the semifinals and was eliminated by Atlético Mineiro, which would become the champion of that edition. In the state championship, the club won the 2021 Ceará Championship. The season established Fortaleza as one of the leading forces in Northeast football in the decade. It paved the way for the club's subsequent international campaigns under Vojvoda's leadership.
