History

Fortaleza Esporte Clube, founded on October 18, 1918, lived in the 2020s the most consistent period in its history. The arrival of Argentine coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda in 2021 gave the club a competitive and lasting playing identity, something rare in Brazilian football. In 2024, Fortaleza competed for the lead in the Brazilian Championship for much of the tournament. They finished the competition in 4th place with 68 points, the best placement of a northeastern club in the points system era so far, and secured a direct spot in the group stage of the 2025 Copa Libertadores. In the 2024 South American Cup, a year after being the tournament's runner-up, the Lion advanced to the quarterfinals and was eliminated by Corinthians. The season consolidated Fortaleza as one of the main forces in northeastern football on the national scene.
