Fortuna Dusseldorf
Fortuna Dusseldorf is a traditional German club, DFB-Pokal champion in 1979 and finalist of the European Cup Winners' Cup in the same year.
History
Founded in 1895 in the city of Dusseldorf, Fortuna had its peak in the late 1970s, when it formed one of the most competitive squads in West Germany under the command of coaches such as Dietrich Weise. In 1979, the club won the DFB-Pokal and reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, being defeated by Barcelona in Basel, the historic peak of the institution. After years alternating between the Bundesliga and the German second division, Fortuna returned to the elite in 2018, maintaining itself as a traditional club of Rhenish football.
