History

Funorte Esporte Clube was founded on March 3, 2007, in Montes Claros (MG), and became known by the nickname Formigão. The club's rise was rapid: in 2008, just one year after its founding, it won the title of the Minas Gerais Second Division Championship, the main trophy in its history. In the following years, Funorte competed in the divisions of the Minas Gerais Championship and, in 2010, finished as runner-up in Module II, which contributed to promotion. With approximately four years of existence, the club reached the elite of state football in 2011 and became the first representative of Montes Claros in the first division of Minas Gerais in 13 years.
