Gama 1998 won the Brazilian Championship Series B and became the first club from the Federal District to gain access to the elite of national football. The title paved the way for one of the most remarkable episodes in the history of Brazilian football.

History

Sociedade Esportiva do Gama was founded on November 15, 1975, in the administrative region of Gama, in the Federal District. Over time, the white and green team established itself as one of the main forces in Brasília football and plays its matches at Bezerrão Stadium. In 1998, Gama made the most important campaign in its history and won the Series B title of the Brazilian Championship. With this, it secured a place in Series A in 1999. In Series A of 1999, Gama ended up in the relegation zone after the redistribution of points caused by the Sandro Hiroshi case, a São Paulo player who played in an irregular situation. The club appealed to the common courts to remain in the first division. The deadlock prevented the CBF from organizing the 2000 Campeonato Brasileiro, and the Clube dos 13 created the Copa João Havelange, in which Gama competed in the Blue Module, the main group.
