Genoa Cricket and Football Club

Genoa is the oldest football club in Italy and one of the most traditional in Europe. Founded in 1893 by a British community in Genoa, the club has a deep history in Italian football. It shares the city with Sampdoria in the Derby della Lanterna, one of the oldest classics in the country.

History

Genoa was the dominant club in Italian football in the early twentieth century, winning nine national championship titles between 1898 and 1924. After decades of fluctuating between divisions, the club remains a symbol of Italian football history. The Luigi Ferraris stadium, which it shares with Sampdoria, is one of the most historic in Italy. In recent years, the club returned to Serie A and seeks to reclaim part of its former prestige.
