Genus Sport Club

Genus Sport Club is one of the most traditional clubs in Rondônia football, historically competing in the Rondônia State Championship and national access competitions. It is one of the main representatives of Porto Velho in the Amazonian scenario.

History

Founded in Porto Velho in the early 1980s, Genus Sport Club was born during a period of strong expansion of organized football in Rondônia, a state that had recently become a federative unit. The club quickly became one of the protagonists of the Rondônia State Championship, playing heated classic matches against teams from Porto Velho and from the interior of the state. Over the following decades, Genus established itself as a regular force in the final stages of the state competition, contributing to the gradual professionalization of Rondonian football. The club also participated in editions of national access competitions, such as the defunct Copa Norte and regional tournaments that brought together teams from the Amazon. Despite facing the structural difficulties common to clubs in Amazonian football, such as reduced schedules and little national visibility, Genus maintained its loyal fan base in Porto Velho, being remembered as a symbol of the resilience of Rondonian football outside the major centers.
