History

Founded in 1881, Bordeaux became a powerhouse in French football from the 1980s onwards, winning national titles and reaching the UEFA Cup final in 1996. Coach Aimé Jacquet, who would later win the World Cup with the French national team, built his foundations as a coach at Bordeaux. Zinedine Zidane began his professional career at the club before becoming one of the greatest players in history. In 2009, the club won its sixth Ligue 1 title, but subsequent years were marked by financial instability that led to relegation in 2022.
