Goiás Esporte Clube
Goiás Esporte Clube is the most traditional club in the state of Goiás and one of the largest in the Brazilian Midwest. Founded in 1943, the Esmeraldino has alternated between Serie A and Serie B of the Campeonato Brasileiro throughout the decades. The club is recognized for its strong regional identity and loyal fans in Goiânia.
History
Founded in 1943 in Goiânia, Goiás quickly became the most popular club in the Brazilian Midwest. The Esmeraldino won the Campeonato Brasileiro in 1960 through the Roberto Gomes Pedrosa Tournament and participated in several editions of the Copa Libertadores. The club rivals Atlético Goianiense in the Clássico Goiano, one of the most anticipated derbies in regional football. Serrinha, its stadium, is the stage for great moments in Esmeraldino's history.
