Grasshopper Club Zürich

Founded in 1886, Grasshopper is one of the most traditional and titled clubs in Switzerland, with historical prominence in domestic football despite competitive decline in recent decades.

History

Grasshopper Club Zürich was founded in 1886 by an English student in Zurich, being one of the oldest football clubs in Switzerland and on the European continent. During the 20th century, the club established itself as the most successful in Swiss football, accumulating the largest number of national titles in the country, in addition to regularly competing in European competitions organized by UEFA. In the 2000s and 2010s, Grasshopper faced financial difficulties and sporting decline, even being relegated from the Swiss Super League, but remains a historical reference in the country's football.
